Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Clovis Community College dedicated areas on the campus Wednesday to two long-time educators.
The board of trustees passed the resolution Sept. 1 to dedicate the Town Hall as the Dr. Jay Gurley Town Hall.
Gurley served as the first president of Clovis Community College from July 1991 to April 1998, as well as serving in many leadership positions in the community and the state. Gurley was instrumental in the effort that brought about the creation of CCC.
The business office and offices of the vice president for finance and administration will be known as Dr. James H. Turner Business Services Center.
Turner served in various administrative capacities at CCC from 1969 to 1999, including chief financial officer for the Clovis branch of Eastern New Mexico University from 1974 1991 and for CCC from 1991 to 1997.
“Jay Gurley and Jim Turner worked together for over 18 years and have a friendship that still exists. Their work at the college has had a lasting impact on the community and on the lives of thousands of students, faculty, and staff. It is fitting that they should be honored here today with the naming of a section of the college’s main building for each of them,” CCC president John Neibling said.
