Ticket feature: Cannon, ethnic fair hosting car shows

It’s a weekend for auto lovers with two auto shows in Clovis Saturday.

The first show will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Main Street between Fourth and Sixth Streets in conjunction with the Ethnic Fair.

Then at 10 a.m., Cannon Thunder will begin at Doc Stewart Park on the west side State Road 311, across from the entrance to Cannon Air Force Base.

Chairman of the Clovis Ethnic/Cultural Arts Committee Selmus Price said an auto show has been part of the fair for about 15 of its 19-year history in Clovis.

Typically he said there are 30 or more entries ranging from motorcycles to cars and trucks from all eras.

And situation near the buzz of the Ethnic Fair, Price said there will be plenty of vendors and activities for the public.

In its fourth year, Cannon Thunder organizer Paul Hopkins said the show has been a success and typically draws about 50 auto entries in categories from muscle cars, antique, classic and more.

“There’s a little bit of something for everybody,” Hopkins said.

Hopkins said there will be food vendors, children’s activities and games with prizes.

One game, “Nut Speed” involves racing to thread a nut with competitors hands submerged in ice water, he said. There will also be a tire obstacle course and auto trivia.

Both will continue accepting new entries up to the start of the shows.
