The Clovis-Carver Public Library is one of five New Mexico libraries taking part in a power meter loan program, according to a release from Xcel Energy.
The company’s Power Check program gives libraries portable power meters, which patrons can check out and use to determine energy consumption and cost of using individual appliances and electronic devices.
The program started last year in libraries in Colorado and Minnesota, and has expanded to 50 libraries in five states where Xcel provides electric service.
Xcel Energy Market Manager Chris Dierker, who coordinates Power Check, said some customers have been able to make 10 to 20 percent reductions in power consumption through what they learned from the meters.
Other New Mexico libraries taking part include Artesia, Eunice, Lovington and Roswell.
