PNT staff reports
Portales and Floyd Fire Departments responded to a hay fire on Highway 236 at Anderson Dairy this morning at 8:30 a.m. No one was injured in the fire that burned 20 bales of hay, said Lt. Floyd Hancock. The cause of the fire was undetermined, but might be ruled as wet hay, said Hancock. High moisture levels in stored hay can cause mold growth and other chemical reactions that raise the temperature to a burning point.
Four units from Portales and three from Floyd responded to the fire and was under control in an hour, said Hancock.
