Cannon spouse wins lottery

A Clovis homemaker and military spouse won $30,000 playing scratch off lottery’s Big Bingo Monday night.

Darlene Greene told lottery officials she plans to use some of the money to pay off a car loan, according to a press release.

Linda Hamlin, New Mexico Lottery spokeswoman, said Greene’s husband Wendell, stationed at Cannon Air Force Base, recently returned from a deployment to Iraq.

Greene said she was playing the game Monday evening before bed when she discovered she had won. “I just fell down and started thanking God,” she told lottery officials.

Just to be sure, Greene took the winning ticket back to the Allsup’s on State Road 311 where she purchased it and said when the clerk asked her to sign the back of the ticket, “I forgot my name... I had to ask my husband for my name and my address.”

This summer there have been three Clovis lottery winners with prizes exceeding $50,000.

The Allsup’s at S.R. 311 has sold four recent scratch-off winners with prizes ranging from $900 to $30,000, the release said.
