Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
November is New Mexico Recycling Awareness Month, a statewide annual event created to promote recycling, waste reduction, composting and buying recycled products.
It is held in conjunction with the nationwide America Recycles Day campaign on November 15. “I Recycle” is the theme of Keep America Beautiful 2010.
Millions of Americans have pledged to increase their recycling habits at home and at work over the 13-year history of ARD, a nationally-recognized initiative dedicated to encouraging people to recycle more at home, at work and on the go.
Keep America Beautiful, Inc., established in 1953, is the nation’s largest volunteer-based community action and education organization. With a network of more than 1,200 affiliate and participating organizations, Keep America Beautiful forms public private partnerships and programs that engage individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their community environments.

Cannon offers many avenues for everyone to reduce, reuse and recycle. Try to separate or bundle newspaper, corrugated cardboard, brown paper bags, and glued-back books such as magazines or phone books. Plastics bottles, which are stamped with either No. 1 PETE — polyethylene terephthalate — on the bottom or No. 2 HDPE — high density polyethylene — can also be recycled, as well as clear, green and amber glass; and tin and aluminum cans.
Before recycling, ensure liquids are rinsed out, especially milk, and plastic lids are removed. Even yard waste can also be recycled. Bag only the clippings and place it along the curb with other recyclable for scheduled pick up.
Just recycling these few items will reduce the trash footprint by more than 50 percent and reduce greenhouse gases, while conserving precious landfill space.
Take a proactive approach and to reduce, reuse, and recycle both at work and home.
