A former Eastern New Mexico University student was sentenced Tuesday to eight years in prison for possession of child pornography, according to a press release from the district attorney’s office.
Christopher Kelley, 41, was convicted of eight counts of child pornography, and will be required to serve four years of probation and register as a sex offender following his release.
According the press release:
• The charges stem from November 2009, when the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation to locate a computer that was downloading child pornography using a wireless Internet router at the ENMU campus.
• Five months later, deputies received a tip that Kelly appeared to be downloading child pornography at a local establishment using a laptop.
• Deputies obtained a search warrant for Kelley’s computers and the examination uncovered multiple images of child pornography. One of his computers was also determined to be the computer used to download child pornography at the various locations around Roosevelt County.
