An Odessa, Texas, man was sentenced to life in prison Friday for a 1993 shooting of a Portales man.
Arnoldo Navarette, 40, was also given a three-year sentence in connection to a 1993 shooting that killed Reynaldo Ornelas Sr. and injured a bystander.
Navarette was found guilty by a jury Sept. 30 of first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
A life sentence in New Mexico means the prisoner is eligible for parole after 30 years.
Following an investigation into the shooting, the Portales Police Department issued an arrest warrant for Arnoldo Navarette, but he immediately fled the state. He was located 16 years later working under an alias in Odessa.
