Cannon Air Force Base’s Chief Master Sgt. William H. Turner, Command Chief of the 27th Special Operations Wing, has been chosen as the command chief master sergeant for Air Force Special Operations Command in Hurlburt Field, Fla., according to a news release. Turner's new position is the top enlisted position at Air Force Special Operations Command.
Turner will serve as personal advisor to the commander of AFSOC on issues regarding welfare, readiness, morale and proper utilization and progress of the enlisted force, the release said.
The release said that during his more than 24 years of service, Turner has served as an AC-130 aerial gunner and instructor, operations flight chief, squadron superintendent, superintendent for the Secretary of the Air Force and Air Force Chief of Staff executive action group. He has also been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Air Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, including two for Heroism, and the Aerial Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters.
Turner has already departed Cannon for his new position, according to Cannon Public Affairs.
