Good morning and welcome to the Freedom New Mexico Thursday briefing.

Wait ‘til next year

Eastern New Mexico University is closing for winter break at 5 p.m. today and will resume classes Jan. 3, according to information from the university.

The spring semester begins Jan. 18. Currently enrolled students can register any time at www.enmu.edu

Heads up

The deadline for purchasing tickets to the annual Martin Luther King Day breakfast is fast approaching — Jan. 12.

Guest Speaker will be Dr. Ladona Clayton, superintendent of Clovis Christian Schools.

Tickets are $6 for ages 12 and under and $10 for everyone else. Available at the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce, 105 E. Grand Ave.

Today in history

On this day in 1968, the crew and captain of the U.S. intelligence gathering ship Pueblo are released after 11 months imprisonment by the government of North Korea.

The ship, and its 83-man crew, was seized by North Korean warships on Jan. 23 and charged with intruding into North Korean waters.
