All creatures could use comfort

Twas the day before Christmas and boy was it cold

I broke ice on the tanks and scattered feed on the snow

The cattle all came to the pickup’s horn and grabbed the feed in great hungry bites

Then down from the trees flew a bunch of little birds

They joined the cows and I wondered

What was going on

Had they gotten lost on their way to the south where there’s no winter snow?

The cows didn’t seem to mind and the dog didn’t bark — they looked so cold

Everyone let them eat along with the herd

As I watched I thought of the three greatest gifts

faith, hope and love — the greatest being love

I went on to the next pasture and when the cows came more birds did, too, along with a rabbit

When it’s so cold we all, even birds and rabbits, need comfort.
