Police blotter — Jan. 9

Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

About noon Dec. 29 an officer responded to a report of a crash at Prince and Brady.

A man told the officer he was towing farm equipment and when he drove under the utility lines, the equipment caught the lines and pulled them down.

The officer measured and found the farm equipment was 21 feet-tall, while the lines were only 18-feet from the ground.

The electric and cable companies were called to repair their lines and the man received a citation for careless driving.

Around 1 p.m. Dec. 29 officers were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Timona Street for a report of a burglary in progress.

A neighbor said they saw a male wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt enter the residence through a window.

Officers confirmed the screen was broken and the window open. They also found a door to the garage unlocked and entered the residence to look for the suspect.

After doing a walk-through of the home, they concluded the suspect had fled out the back door.

The owner of the property said his tenant was out of town but he would tell her about the incident and have her look through her home to see if anything was missing.

About 3 p.m. Dec. 29 an officer was contacted by social workers regarding to a child abuse report at an undisclosed residence.

The workers said they had recently done a home visit with a family and saw unusual bruises on a 2-year-old girl in the home.

The officer went to the residence and while he was at the door talking to the mother about why he was there, the child came to the door and he saw a bruise on her eye that he noted was consistent with being hit in the face.

Another child in the home did not have any visible injuries, he noted.

After discovering there had been five prior investigations into child abuse at the home, some of which were still pending, the officer decided to take the children into custody.

The children were placed in the custody of child services and a detective was called to take over the investigation.

Around 11 p.m. Dec. 29 an officer responded to the area of Fourth and Main streets for a report of a suspicious subject.

Callers told dispatch a man was walking around in a trench coat, carrying a walking staff and doing “karate moves.”

The officer located the man and after checking his identification, discovered an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court.

The man was arrested, but asked the officer to leave his staff lying in the grass because he didn’t want to take it to the jail with him.

The officer left the staff near a building as the man asked.
