Portales policeman recognized

Portales Police Officer Chris McCasland has received an award for saving a man’s life.

Portales Police Deputy Chief Lonnie Berry said McCasland received the award from the department Friday. In November, McCasland performed CPR on a young man in cardiac arrest while waiting for an ambulance to arrive.

“We gave the award based on the fact we feel his actions resulted in the young man living through the situation,” Berry said.
