Curry County is one of two counties seeking jail accreditation.
Curry and Chaves counties have entered the Adult Detention Professional Standard Council’s accreditation program, a joint initiative of the New Mexico Association of Counties and the New Mexico Municipal League, according to a press release from the NMAC.
Once accepted into the program, counties have two years to develop policies and practices that “meet or exceed council accreditation standards,” the release said.
County Manager Lance Pyle said Curry County’s application was accepted into the program Dec. 28.
The NMAC is a nonprofit statewide organization of elected county officials and employees acting as an advocate for county governments.
The NMML is also a nonprofit group, serving New Mexico cities, villages and towns.
