WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS — Eastern New Mexico University couldn’t have picked a tougher place to extend its longest win streak since 2007.
Chris Hagen led a balanced attack with 22 points and Midwestern State blitzed the Greyhounds early en route to an 89-69 Lone State Conference South win Wednesday.
David Terrell added 16 points and 10 rebounds as Midwestern State (14-3, 2-1 LSC) pushed its win streak at D.L. Ligon Coliseum to 38 games.
Junior guard Stefan Mirabal scored 18 points for ENMU (7-8, 2-1), which dropped into a four-way tie for second in the LSC South while having its four-game win streak stopped.
The Mustangs shot 51 percent from the field, including 55 percent in the first half, which ended with Midwestern State up 49-31. Midwestern also outrebounded the Hounds 47-20.
Versia Hodges’ jumper put ENMU up 20-17 midway through the first half, but Midwestern took control with a 19-4 run that started with Hagen’s layup.
The Hounds managed to pull within 54-40 on a Mirabal jumper four minutes in the second half. But Darrick Thomas scored on a dunk and a layup on consecutive possessions to start an 11-3 run that allowed the Mustangs to rebuild their lead to 22 points.
