Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
There is a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 5 PM this afternoon to 11 AM MST Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011.
***THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBUQUERQUE HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW... 2” to 5” of snow are predicted in the local area.***
The Clovis Police Department would like to remind drivers that when icy/snowy conditions exist on the roadway that ice may be hidden underneath a thin layer of blowing snow. The vehicles ability to stop and maneuver is greatly diminished and extra distance and significantly slower speeds must be exercised in order to drive safely. Of particular hazard are overpasses and roadway intersections. The only two things that will stop a vehicle are time and distance. Anti-lock brakes and four-wheel drive are no replacement for time and distance. Due to the predicted icy/snowy road conditions, everyone needs to slow their speed of travel significantly if inclement road conditions exist.
