Tuesday morning briefing: Storm advisory, dance winners and Texas secedes

Good morning. It’s the Freedom New Mexico Tuesday briefing.

Special note: There's a winter storm advisory today through Wednesday.

Dance team winners

Congrats are in order for the Clovis High Wildcadette dance team.

They took second place Saturday in the Lady Rocket Spiritfest at Roswell’s Goddard High School, according to Coach Kymberly Cordova.

Dance team members are Julie Garcia, captain; Janay Blevins, co-captain; Allie McStotts, lieutenant; Areli Hernandez; Dominique Borquez; Desirea Cardenas; Emily Hernandez; Breanna Bell; Amber Nelson; and Marissa Aguirre.

Musical set

Eastern New Mexico University is hosting “The Mikado” by Gilbert and Sullivan at 7 p.m. Feb. 17 through Feb. 19 and 2 p.m. Feb. 20 in Buchanan Hall in the Music Building.

Tickets are available Thursday at the ENMU Music Building box office.

Prices are: $7 for an adult, $6 for senior citizens, $5 for high school students and under, and $4 for ENMU students with ID.

Today in history

On this day in 1861, Texas becomes the seventh state to secede from the Union when a state convention votes 166 to 8 in favor of the measure.

The Texans who voted to leave the Union did so over the objections of their governor and war hero, Sam Houston.
