About 15 Fancy Nancy fans attended the Fancy Nancy Fashion Show Extravaganza at the Cannon Library on March 5.
Fancy Nancy is the title character of the Fancy Nancy series, a 2005 children’s picture book written by Jane O’Connor.
The character is a young girl who adores all things fancy. She always dresses extravagantly, wearing boas and tutus.
The group at Cannon Library came dressed up and made their own tutus, beaded necklaces and headbands to go along with their outfits.
Library assistant Justine Johnson read a Fancy Nancy book to the group and then they dispersed around tables to make their accessories.
Julia Johnson brought her 4-year-old daughter Hailey Johnson to the event because she said it’s right up her alley.
“She loves to dress up. I can’t get her into a pair of jeans,” Johnson said.
Johnson said they have the Fancy Nancy series at home and Hailey enjoyed the event.
Staff Sgt. Bonnie Thomas, with the civil engineering squadron, said she and her daughter Allura Thomas, 7, attended the event to have some mother-daughter time.
Allura Thomas said she enjoyed dressing up and making her tutu.
After making their accessories, the girls modeled their Fancy Nancy attire for their parents in a fashion show.
Johnson said other libraries have held Fancy Nancy-themed events and the Cannon Library wanted to do the same.
“Any child who is ages 5 through 9, they know everything about Fancy Nancy,” she said.
Johnson, Library Director Melissa Haraughty and Youth librarian Loretta Croke dressed up for the occasion, wearing their own tutus and headbands.
“When we get to do events like this, we like to go all out,” Johnson said.
