Press relase: Hounds provisionally qualify at Tarleton Invitational

STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS — Senior Daniel Draper (Moriarty, N.M./Moriarty HS) and Bill Squire (Jr., Hagerman, N.M./Hagerman HS) from the Eastern New Mexico University track & field team, turned in strong performances at the Tarleton State Invitational, held at the Oscar Frasier Track, on Thursday evening. The duo provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the javelin (Draper) and shot put (Squire).

Squire had the top performance of the evening in the shot put, with a throw of 52’-8.28” and was the runner-up in the hammer throw, with a toss of 158’-4.78”. Draper made the top throw in the javelin toss, with a distance of 194’-0.34”.

For the Zias, Adrienne Montoya (Fr., Estancia, N.M./Public Academy for the Performing Arts) took second in the 1,500-meter run, with a time of 4:47.68, while Tegan Volberding (Fr., Dayton, Nev./Dayton HS) placed third in the triple jump, clearing a distance of 34’-4.8”. Nicky Reid (Jr., Pueblo, Colo./East HS) turned in a second-place performance, with a time of 2:24.35, in the 800-meter run.

The Eastern New Mexico University track and field teams will return to action on Wednesday, March 23rd, when they travel to San Angelo, Texas for the Angelo State Multi Events.
