Senior first baseman Mitch Wolfe drove in six runs with a pair of homers and freshman Aaron Anderson pitched six effective innings to lift Eastern New Mexico University past Texas A&M-Kingsville 11-1 on Saturday at Greyhound Field for a split of their Lone Star Conference baseball doubleheader.

ENMU (5-16, 3-12 LSC), which took Friday’s opener against the Javelinas 12-3, won its first conference series of the season. Meantime, Kingsville (13-10, 10-8) scored six runs in the sixth, highlighted by catcher Jake Mendiola’s go-ahead, two-run single and a three-run, pinch-hit double by Brian Frazier, for a 6-1 victory in Saturday’s seven-inning opener.

The Greyhounds ended the nightcap in the bottom of the seventh on the 10-run rule, scoring the game-ending run when Joe Jones was hit by a pitch with two out and came around on the last two of Kingsville’s six second-game errors.

Anderson (1-0) gave up eight hits and three walks, but stranded nine Kingsville baserunners. He had four strikeouts and threw 99 pitches.

Catcher Joe Huwer doubled home Alex Schultz in the bottom of the first before the Hounds erupted for seven runs on four hits and three Kingsville errors in the bottom of the second, capped by Wolfe’s grand slam which chased Kingsville starter Clay Stephens (2-2).

Luis Quinones started the outburst with a one-out bunt single and took third on Daniel Patching’s single. Blake Thomsen was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Jones stroked an RBI single to right.

Patching scored on an outfield misplay on the hit, and Thomsen came home on a squeeze bunt by Schultz. Huwer then reached on an error to load the bases for Wolfe, who unloaded over the left field fence.

Wolfe added a two-run homer, his third of the season, in the bottom of the sixth off Ian Jones.

Patching went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases for the Hounds, while Schults was 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored.

In the seven-inning opener, senior right-hander Anthony Smith (1-5) carried a three-hit shutout and a 1-0 lead into the sixth before the Javelinas scored all their runs with two outs.

Jerry Rodriguez doubled with one out, took third on a groundout and scored on first baseman Adrian Williams’ single to right. A.J. Hecker followed with a single and pinch-hitter Trent Wagner was hit by a pitch before Mendiola delivered his two-run single to left on an 0-1 pitch.

After Cody Stigall was hit by a pitch to load the bases, left-hander Marcus Drake relieved Smith and surrendered Frazier’s three-run double.

Kingsville’s Tim Jones (3-2) went the distance on a five-hitter, walking none and striking out five. Wolfe’s two-out single scored Jones to give ENMU a 1-0 lead in the third.
