Our people: Jackie Clark has helped organize the Roosevelt County fair for more than 20 years

Liliana Castillo: Freedom New Mexico A bench at the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds was dedicated in Roosevelt County resident Jackie Clark's honor after she helped organize the county fair for more than 20 years.

Roosevelt County resident Jackie Clark helped organize the Roosevelt County Fair for more than 20 years. She began volunteering at the fair 1974. She said she enjoyed seeing 4-H and Future Farmers of America students work hard on their projects each year.

“The county fairs were always enjoyable because you were able to see and visit with friends that you did not see often,” she said.

Clark said the hardest thing about working the fair was making the switch to digital records. Through it all, Clark said she made lifelong friends while working at the county extension office.

“They were all great people and like family,” Clark said.

Clark said it was difficult for her to see buildings at the fairgrounds torn down last year.

In retirement, Clark has been researching her family tree, continues to be a homemaker and she and her husband Kenneth raise Boer show goats for their grandchildren and 4-H and FFA students to show at the fair.
