Curry County Association of Educational Retirees met April 4 at Furr’s. The meeting was opened with prayer and pledges to the American flag and the New Mexico flag. Dianne Davis introduced Rebecca Reid-Carlyle, who gave a program on reverse mortgages.
The reverse mortgage plan was explained step by step and who is eligible. These mortgages are approved by FHA and HUD. Questions were asked after the presentation.
Jackye Alexander opened the business meeting. The treasurer’s report was approved. Mary Hastain sent a Benevolent Report. Pam Wallace stated that the association has 273 members and 263 state members. Delman Shirley gave the legislative report and said we dodged the bullet this time on changes in our retirement.
Lynda Millburn spoke on the gross receipts tax and encouraged members to vote on May 3 which is the day of the next meeting, where Randy Crowder will speak on this matter.
The retirement tea sponsored by Clovis Schools and CCAER will be May 5 at the Clovis Civic Center from 3:45-5 p.m. Door prizes of ceramic rabbits were given. Jackye Alexander adjourned the meeting.
