A 20-year-old Portales man has been arrested on charges of copying, distributing and downloading child pornography, according to police and court records.
Jason Torres is charged with six counts of manufacturing child pornography, a second-degree felony; eight counts of distributing child pornography, a third-degree felony; and 14 counts of possessing child pornography, a fourth-degree felony, according to Ninth Judicial District Court documents. Torres was arrested Wednesday and released on a $30,000 cash or surety bond, according to Roosevelt County Detention Center records.
The manufacturing charge comes from accusations that Torres copied six child pornography files onto an external digital storage device, according to the criminal complaint.
According to court documents, a Portales police detective was contacted in March and May by Attorney General’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigators who had discovered a computer with an IP address registered to Torres was receiving, possessing and distributing child pornography.
Portales police executed a search warrant at Torres’ residence in the 100 block of East 17th Lane on May 12 and found a desktop computer and external hard drive containing child pornography in the bedroom Torres identified as his, according to the documents.
No contact information was available for Torres.
