Woman jailed on charges of evading officers

A female is in the Parmer County jail on charges of evading officers in her vehicle Tuesday after she led Bovina police on a pursuit into Curry County.

Around 2 p.m. CDT, Curry County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of State Road 523 and 108 on the east side of Curry County near the Texas border for a report of a high speed pursuit.

Undersheriff Wesley Waller said the suspect’s vehicle became stuck in the mud in an irrigated field near State Roads 523 and 108.

Bovina Police Chief Gary Sinclair said his office responded to a call that a woman had gone to a residence where she had been issued a trespass order prohibiting her from being on the property because of a custody dispute.

When officers attempted to stop her vehicle, he said she fled.

Sinclair said no one was injured in the pursuit and the only vehicle damaged was the suspect’s as a result of getting stuck.

Sinclair said he didn’t have the woman’s name available to him but she is from New Mexico.

Evading arrest with a vehicle is a felony under Texas law, he said.
