Dallas man being held on drug charges

A 20-year-old Dallas man is being held at the Curry County jail on drug charges after local drug agents say they saw him throw a bag of methamphetamines into a Clovis street near a yard where children were playing.

Angel Lechuga is being held on a more than $63,000 bond on charges of trafficking methamphetamines, child abuse and tampering with evidence.

Agents with the Region V Drug Task Force were following Lechuga’s vehicle on west Ninth Street Monday after he drove up to, then left a residence where a narcotics investigation was being conducted, according to Undersheriff Wesley Waller.

Agents were attempting to get his license plate number, when they saw him throw a plastic bag out the window, Waller said.

Officers saw two children in a yard go over to inspect the bag, but were stopped by law enforcement before they reached it, according to a press release from the Curry County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers determined the bag contained an eighth of an ounce of methamphetamines, the release said.

A 17-year-old male in the vehicle was also found in possession of several bags of marijuana. Charges against the teen were referred to juvenile authorities, the release said.

Two young children in Lechuga’s vehicle were turned over to the custody of their mother.

Lechuga is also being held on a Texas warrant for dangerous drugs and an outstanding warrant from Curry County Magistrate Court for failing to appear, according to the press release.
