Pilot Club
The Pilot Club of Clovis held their monthly business meeting at Muffley’s Backdoor Room. A report was given on a workshop in Denver by President Sue Rutter.
Also attending the workshop were Pilot members Janet Barnhart and Rosie Cox.
The Club recently completed their fund raising of selling nuts. Nuts will still be available by calling Susie Hatley at 760-1294 or Sue Rutter at 762-0491. Funds from the proceeds will be used for their Community Projects. Their program meeting will be held Oct. 24 with Hazel Richter giving a report for Make A Wish Foundation for their upcoming project.
Pilot International has recently formed a partnership with making a Wish Foundation. Anyone interested in knowing more about the Pilot Club of Clovis and their projects may call President Sue Rutter at 762-0491.
PRMC Auxilians
Twelve PRMC Auxilians traveled to Albuquerque to attend the Auxiliary Volunteer Service annual meeting held at the Embassy Suites, Sept. 28-30. Those attending were Phillis Davidson, Judy Breever, Judy Kern, Paula Johnston, Barbara Hughes, Mary Kay Nabholz, Pat Weekley, Joy Melton, Fran Boney, Norma Nagel, Vivian Lake and Alicia Grasso.
Paula Johnston outgoing NMHA president spoke of how this year has been a very rewarding experience as she had been greeted with hospitality and friendships that only medical volunteers do. Johnston thanked her own auxiliary at PRMC for the support, generosity, encouragement and interest they had given her.
Mary McCormack CAVS gave an informative talk on innovative recruitment strategies that work.
A delicious luncheon was served followed by breakout education sessions.
Entertainment was provided by Gold Rush, a mixed show choir and band comprised of members of the El Dorado Screamin’ Eagles Jazz Band.
Woman’s club
The Portales Woman’s Club met on Oct. 12 with President Teresa Howard presiding. The Collect was led by the president, the pledges by Beth Davis, and Julie Nickles gave the invocation.
Hannah Cissell, the club’s representative to the HOBY Seminar in El Paso, Texas, and a student at Portales High School, told about her trip and thanked the club for their support.
The minutes from the September meeting were approved. The treasurer gave the monthly report. The club approved the proposed budget for 2011-2012. Doncella Caywood, Fine Arts chairman, reminded members about submitting items for the district fine arts contest.
Lois Crozier recognized the longtime membership and support the club has received from Jane Hilliard and presented a framed photograph to be hung in the club building in her honor.
Beth Davis won the door prize. A thank you letter was read from Sally Harper, GFWC NM president, thanking the club’s for its support of the Operation Wounded Warrior project. Another thank you letter was read from the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce for the club’s participation in the Cannon Air Force Base Appreciation day recently held in Portales.
Volunteers to help with the Peanut Festival were solicited.
A gift basket was received from Pat Wood, and tickets will be sold to raise money for the club’s scholarship fund. June Ferguson, membership chair, recognized Patty Schroeder as a new member.
The club approved a board recommendation regarding mileage for district meetings.
Jan Smartnick, chair, introduced others serving on the hostess committee: Ann Malott, Amber Hamilton, Sid Phillips, and Wanda Pettus.
Following the close of the business meeting, Errin Burch introduced Deborah Lewis, a domestic violence advocate at the Hartley House who talked about the program and its needs.
The club will meet again on Nov. 9 at 8:30 am for the annual prayer breakfast. Guests are always welcome.

Altrusa club
The Altrusa International, Inc. Club of Portales met Oct.. 10 at noon in the Central Annex.
President Gaynelle Thomas called the meeting to order. There were 15 members present. Frankye King led the opening ceremonies. The minutes and treasurer’s reports were approved.
Pat Willis gave the Altrusa Accent on the history of the Altrusa pin, and Thomas drew for the Queen of Hearts.
Thomas announced that the RADA cutlery was on sale at Sheila’s. A final financial report on the home tour showed a profit of $2,791.
It was announced that the Holiday Happening committee had sold 37 tables so far, and the president encouraged members to turn in their forms. The president thanked members who helped clean up the Altrusa Triangle recently.
The club approved three board recommendations: To participate in Make a Difference Day by collecting items for the parenting classes for the inmates at the Roosevelt County Detention Center; tour the Eastern New Mexico Food Bank; and apply for three grants through the Altrusa Foundation.
The president also announced that $16.36 had been collected for cardboard recycling, and she asked members to save the pink lids from yogurt containers as they, too, will be recycled.
Wanda Pettus introduced Hazel Richiter, a grantor for the Make a Wish Program for Curry, Roosevelt and DeBaca counties. She explained the process of how a child’s wish is processed and granted. The president presented her with a certificate of appreciation following the presentation.
Nellie Dyer, vice president, announced that the next club meeting would be on Oct. 24, and the speaker will be Patty Saylor.
