Clayton: Miracles happen in everyday life

Have you ever considered the fact that you are a miracle? That tiny microscopic cell contains your physical characteristics, talents, abilities and personality. I find that amazing.

What about the little coincidences in our lives? Had you been just a little bit earlier or later a car wreck might have happened or if it happened it could have taken your life? Or like my son who looked down and saw a rattlesnake just in time?

If you ever doubt how valuable you are, read Psalm 139:13-15: “For you created my inner most being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place...” (NIV)

The New Century version affirms your value: “…you saw my body as it was formed. All the days planned for me were written in your book before I was one day old” (Psalm 139:16).

I believe our destinies are determined by God’s plan for our lives. I also believe God will move heaven and earth in our behalf to fulfill that plan.

The Bible is filled with miracles. God never gave up on his people. From the parting of the Red Sea to the crucifixion, God’s mercy is still extended to wayward souls.

We may not see miracles as in Bible times, but what about God’s miracles for us individually? From the cradle to the grave our growth, development, friends, family, healing and salvation are all individual miracles in our lives.

It may seem to you your life is humdrum and non-eventful yet God works in his own quiet way, performing simple every day miracles in your life and mine. I have heard people say, “If I could only see a miracle, I would believe,” and that makes blessings and miracles of every day life go unnoticed.

My husband wanted to paint a windmill in his pasture that no one ever sees except the coyotes.

“Why would you waste all that time and paint? Who would ever see it?”

“God,” he answered. “Just to thank him for the miracle of water in a dry place. To thank him for clean pure water to drink, not just for us, but for wildlife too, even coyotes!”

I thanked God that day for my husband’s tender answer. I also thanked God for his “living water.”

The paralytic in the fifth chapter of John had not walked for 38 years. Jesus healed him, but the greater miracle the man received was forgiveness. (John 5:14) This reminds me to not lose my focus on the truly important things of daily living.

You can find God’s power in every day life. The healing power of medicine, food produced from rich brown earth, pure clean water from mountain streams, clean air, bodies that can walk, work, see, hear, taste and smell…are these not every day great little miracles?

As wonderful as these gifts are, the greatest miracle of all is salvation, the miracle of eternal life through our faith in Jesus.

Be watchful and thankful for every day miracles. They are gifts from a loving God. That makes you and me extra special.
