Encanto Garden Club
Members and guests of the Encanto Garden Club gathered for the January meeting and Helen Martinez and Jacque Wuest served refreshments.
President Martinez reported on the December death of member Bess Kline and plans were made for a planting at the New Mexico Visitors Center on east Highway 70 where Bess was instrumental in placing a Blue Star Memorial.
Narcie Tucker gave the horticulture report, discussing gardening ideas for January and February. She empathized container plantings as an often successful way of giving flowers and vegetables an earlier start and then distributed handouts for the group.
Jeanne Augenstein provided current plant and seed catalogs, reminding everyone to check expiration dates on seed packets, to seek out heirloom varieties and to always allow water to sit over night so that the chlorine content can evaporate before watering. The meeting adjourned.
