Club notes - Feb. 5

Clovis BPO Does

Clovis BPO Does held a regular meeting on Jan. 26 with President Sandie Kitchens presiding.

Entertainment Chairman Kandi Hall announced there would be an Elks/Does Valentine's Dinner and Dance on Feb. 11. The cost is $15 per person for advance sales and $20 at the door.

Membership Chairman Sammye May read a new application for membership for Angelina Garcia, which was accepted by the members. We will be having new member initiation at the last meeting in February.

Secretary Bea Martel provided the information for the upcoming District Meeting to be held March 8-11 in Farmington. Clovis Drove will be hosting the 2013 District Meeting and Treasurer Hester volunteered to serve as chairman and Ava Pacholke will be the co-chair. This takes lots of time and effort and all members are encouraged to help with the planning.

Our next meeting will be Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Altrusa of Portales

The Altrusa International, Inc. Club of Portales met Jan. 23 in the Central Annex. President Gaynelle Thomas called the meeting to order. There were 23 members and six guests present. Patti Richardson led the opening ceremonies. The minutes and treasurer's reports were approved.

Dannah Brown gave the Altrusa Accent on the Altrusa logo, and Beverly Bennett drew for the Queen of Hearts.

The president reported on the results of the member survey taken at the last meeting. The club voted to invest $50 to get money from the Altrusa Foundation.

Thomas introduced Clay Lair who works for the Roosevelt County Detention Center about classes there. Also, Patty Saylor talked about parenting classes for the incarcerated. The club presented Saylor with numerous school supplies to help with the program.

Nellie Dyer, vice president, announced that the next club meeting would be on January 30 and it will be at 212 Utah Dr. with the social committee in charge. The board meets Feb. 6 and the communications committee will be responsible for the program on Feb. 13.

Claud Rainy Day Extension Club

The Claud Rainy Day Extension Club met Jan. 11 with hostess Joy Pattison. On Jan. 25, the hostesses were Marcy Kos and Reba Camp, assisted by Evelyn Manning.

President Ann Carter reported on the county council meeting and the responsibilities for the new year. Yearbooks were distributed and hostesses signed for the coming meetings.

Marcy read a poem from a booklet by former member Margaret Dougherty. Plans were made for donations to a food bank. Door prizes were won by Aloha Starbuck, Reba Camp, Evelyn Manning, Hildegunde Pulz, Sue Pattison, Lucille Johnson and Dwayne Carter. Guests were Dwayne Carter, Gerhard Pulz and Bob Johnson. The next meeting will be Feb. 9 with Lucille Johnson.

Beta Phi club

Four jewels members, one guest and one pledge attended the regular Beta Phi meeting Nov. 7 held at Simply Salads. A delicious lunch was enjoyed by the ladies.

The meeting was called to order by vice-president Beverly Miller, followed by reciting the opening ritual.

Collene Baldwin, Sandy, Davis, Patsy Lorenz, Bev Miller, Suzy Moore, Rachel Wallace, pledge, were in attendance.
