Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Meetings watch: Clovis City Commission

The Clovis city commission will meet 5:15 p.m. today at the North Annex of the Clovis-Carver Public Library.

Agenda items include:

  • A street update report from City Engineer Justin Howalt.
  • A request for approval to seek funding for an airport master plan, and for state participation in day-to-day supplies. Airport Director Gene Bieker was given direction to do so by the city's civil aviation board last week.
  • A request to transfer a generator from the city's wastewater plant to the city of Texico. The city is not using the generator due to the rebuild of the wastewater treatment plant. Texico officials would like to use it as a backup power source for its water system in case of a long-term power outage, with the understanding replacement parts may be difficult to acquire.
  • A budget transfer of $201,069 for cost participation in the extension of a sewer line between Prince and Thornton streets along Wilhite Road.
  • A budget transfer of $12,960 to replace lighting in the Clovis Civic Center parking lot.
  • A request to accept a $60,000 grant from the New Mexico Aging and Long-term Services Department, for the renovation of the Alice Converse Senior Center.
  • A budget change of $12,416 to repair the city's public works building.

The work would create a small channel for water, which has damaged the building during rainfalls, and repair walls.

  • Approval for the appointment of Terry Moberly to replace Lunell Winton on the city's public works committee, the reappointment of Gene Woodcock on the Commission for Older Adults.
  • An election to replace Adam Warren on the city's planning and zoning committee. The applicants are Rhonda Bargman, Shaun Burns, Charlie Corn Jr., Carolyn Spence and Sistar Yancy.
  • A request for the Clovis Youth Soccer Association to play spring season games at Hillcrest Park. The season runs during April and May.
  • Separate requests for the following street closures: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday on 15th Street between Cameo Street and the Gatewood Apartments for a welcome home party; 10 a.m.-11 a.m. May 5 on Main Street from Marshall Junior High to Grand Street for a motorcycle awareness parade.
  • A request to secure a dangerous building at 1315 Hinkle St.
  • A request to solicit bids for the design and build of irrigation system repairs at Colonial Park Golf Course.
