ENMU football, women's soccer add signees

Three new prospects have signed national letters of intent to play next season at Eastern New Mexico University under first-year coach Josh Lynn.

The players are Noah Brown, a 6-foot-1, 230-pound fullback-defensive end from Valencia, and brothers Kendall Thompkins, a 6-4, 275-pound tight end, and Kameron Thompkins, a 6-3, 220-pound defensive end, transfers from Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College.

Brown was a first-team Class 4A all-state selection at fullback and defensive end for Valencia. He rushed for 1,754 yards and 25 touchdowns and was credited with 14 sacks for the Jaguars en route to Class 4A Metro Player of the Year honors in Albuquerque.

The Thompkins brothers, who are both from Coffeyville, helped CCC post a 6-4 record in 2011. Kendall Thompkins was a two-year starter at tight end and an All-Jayhawk Conference selection this year, while Kameron Thompkins started both years in the defensive line for the Red Ravens.

Women's soccer — ENMU women's soccer coach Todd Padgett has released the names of six signees for the upcoming season, all high school prospects.

They include midfielders Carolyn Armijo of Las Cruces High and Danielle Caro of Denton, Texas; defender Melissa Moxley of Rio Rancho (Rio Rancho High); forward Haley VanSchaick of Mesquite, Texas, and goalkeepers Alyxandra Ortiz of Rio Rancho (Cleveland H.S.) and Cristina Escobedo of El Paso (America H.S.).

"We're very excited with the caliber of player and person joining the program next season," said Padgett, who will be entering his second season at the helm."

The Zias went 8-8-3 (6-5-3 LSC) last fall, and its third-place finish in the Lone Star Conference standings was the highest in the program's nine-year history.
