Gluten-free diet tips featured on show

Information on indoor and outdoor picnics, using beeswax, and vegetables in the gluten-free diet will be the featured topics on "Creative Living" 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and noon on Thursday. (All times are Mountain.)

Rita Fuentes will show how to create a casual picnic setting that can be used indoors or out. She is an Independent Consultant with PartyLite in Plymouth, Mass.

Theresa Cifali, mixed media artist and owner of The Altered Canvas, will show how to use beeswax as the binder when making a collage. She recommends using natural beeswax, not synthetic wax, and she'll show why she prefers the natural. Cifali lives in Valhalla, N.Y.

Carol Fenster, cookbook author, says that vegetables provide important nutrients and fiber, but many people are either confused about their preparation or don't have time. She'll show how to prepare a variety of vegetables and some fun ways to encourage children to eat vegetables. Her business is Savory Palate, Inc. in Centennnial, Colo.

Information on healthy snacks, keeping cut flowers fresh and making a seaside picture frame will be the featured topics on "Creative Living" noon on Tuesday and 2 p.m. on Saturday. (All times are Mountain.)

If you're looking for new ideas and recipes for healthy snacks, Tara Gillette will demonstrate some easy ones that are made in the blender. Gillette is with KitchenAid in Benton Harbor, Mich.

Jill Slater, California Cut Flower Comm., will show how to keep cut flowers fresh. Her tips come straight from the professional florists, and will help retain the beauty of fresh flowers for a longer period of time.

Artist and designer, Chris Thornton will demonstrate using a new product called FabriCraft to make an attractive seaside escape frame. She represents Delta Technical Coatings, Inc. in Whittier, Calif.

Carrot-pineapple salad with raisins

  • 1 pound fresh carrot chips (found in produce section)
  • 1 can (15 ounces) pineapple tidbits, well-drained
  • 1/4 cup raisins (golden or dark), or more to taste
  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup mayonnaise or plain yogurt
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons sugar (or to taste)
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

In a medium bowl, toss together the carrots, pineapple, and raisins with a spatula. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sugar, and salt until well blended. Add to the carrot mixture and toss to coat thoroughly. Cover and refrigerate until serving time. Serve chilled. Serves 4.
