Stop signs changing in southwest Clovis

If your driving route takes you through southwest Clovis, get set to stop a little more often.

The city is installing 39 stop signs in the area surrounded by Eighth, Cameo, 14th and Reid streets over the next few months.

This stop sign at Ninth and Hull Streets will move from Ninth Street to Hull Street as part of a series of traffic changes in the area. The city is planning to add 39 new stop signs in the area over the next few months.

City Engineer Justin Howalt said citizens raised concerns about the intersection of 10th and Cameo streets.

"However, we are looking at the overall area instead of isolating it to one intersection," Howalt said. "We then will come up with a plan that will be implemented based on the available funding."

The changes, previously approved by the public works committee, will start on Eighth Street, with work proceeding north until it is completed on 14th Street.

There are 19 new stop signs coming on north/south streets:

• Through Cameo Street (2): at intersection of 10th Street, creating a three-way stop.
• Through West Street (4): at intersections of Eighth and 12th streets.
• Through Jones Street (4): at the intersections of Eighth and 12th streets.
• Through Edwards Street (4): at the intersections of Ninth and 11th streets.
• Through Davis Street (3): at the intersections of 12th and 14th streets. There will only be one northbound stop sign at the intersection of 14th because Davis ends at 14th Street.
• Through Reid Street (2): at the intersections of 11th Street

There are 20 new stop signs coming on east/west streets:

• Through Eighth Street (2): at the intersection of Reid Street.
• Through Ninth Street (6): at the intersections of West, Jones and Davis streets.
• Through 10th Street (2): at the intersection of Reid Street.
• Through 11th Street (6): at the intersections of West, Jones and Davis streets.
• Through 12th Street (2): at the intersection of Edwards Street.
• Through 13th Street (2): at the intersection of Davis Street.

Six stop signs will be moved from north-south streets to east-west streets at the following intersections. Streets currently marked are listed first:

• West and 13th streets.
• Edwards and Eighth streets.
• Edwards and 10th streets.

Six stop signs will be moved from east-west streets to north-south at the following intersections. Streets currently marked are listed first:

• Ninth and Hull streets
• 11th and Hull streets
• 13th and Hull streets
