PORTALES — First baseman Allie Cranfill homered in each game and drove in six runs as West Texas A&M beat Eastern New Mexico University 13-2 and 6-2 on Tuesday in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader at Zia Softball Field.
Cranfill, who now has 12 homers for the season, hit a two-run shot to center in the third inning of the opener and added a two-out, two-run blast in the fourth inning of the nightcap, the latter breaking a scoreless tie. She also had a two-run double in WT's seven-run fifth in Game 1, a contest which ended after five innings on the eight-run rule.
Catcher Megan Brown delivered a first-game solo homer for the Lady Buffs (26-15, 11-9 LSC), while center fielder Kim LeCompte went deep leading off the seventh inning of Game 2.
The Zias (12-30, 4-16) had their five-game winning streak snapped.
Marci Womack (14-8) threw a four-hitter in the opener for the Lady Buffs (26-15, 11-9), giving up two unearned runs in the bottom of the third. Amber Spencer (9-5) had a no-hitter for 4 2/3 innings in the nightcap and finished with a five-hitter, giving up a two-run single to ENMU pitcher Amy Smith in the bottom of the seventh.
Smith (8-16) took the loss in both games, pitching three innings in the opener and all seven in the nightcap. She gave up nine hits in the second game, and three of the runs off her were unearned.
Eight players combined on a 12-hit attack for the Lady Buffs in the first game, led by designated player Mallory Wyatt with 3-for-3.
