Apolinar Ramirez was arrested on the latest charges Tuesday morning, officials said.

Ramirez, a construction worker, was being held at the Roosevelt County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash only bond, according to detention center officials.

The latest charges are based on statements Ramirez and others made during interviews conducted by the Portales police, officials said.

Ramirez has been held at the detention center since his initial arrest last Wednesday. He now faces 13 counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor.

Arresting officer Sgt. Kirk Wilson said Ramirez should be arraigned on the new charges soon.

According to an affidavit for Ramirez' arrest:

  • The child's mother witnessed a sexual act being performed on her daughter and reported it to police.
  • Ramirez had been sexually assaulting the victim for at least a year.
