Portales Municipal Airport will soon be receiving $139,880 in federal funds, which will be used to reseal a runway.
Eight New Mexico airports will receive funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation to make improvements to their facilities and runways, according to a press release from the office of U.S. Sen, Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M.
Mike Parkey, general services director for the city of Portales, said the Portales airport will use its funds to put a seal coat on the smaller of their two runways that will help reflect the sunlight better and hold the aggregate together better.
Parkey said it is standard procedure to put a new seal on runways every few years.
He said airport officials hope to put a seal coat on the main runway next year.
