Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
HOBBS — Playing a bit shorthanded, the Portales Lady Rams finished third on Tuesday in the Hobbs Invitational.
PHS put two players in the top six in the tournament, with junior Paige Hartman shooting 40-44 — 84 to finish in a three-way tie for second while senior Tylar Rowley shot 47-39 — 86 for a share of fifth.
The Lady Rams were without senior Gabby Espinoza, who sustained minor injuries in a car accident on Monday.
Lovington won the tournament at 366, edging out Clovis by a stroke. The Lady Rams were next at 375.
Roswell Goddard's Emilee Englehard was medalist for the day with a score of 83.
The PHS boys posted a pair of scores in the 80s, but the Rams came up last in an eight-team field at 378.
Host Hobbs ran away with the team title with a four-man total of 294, 13 strokes ahead of Clovis. Carlsbad followed at 313.
Senior Jackson Powers shot 42-46 — 88 and freshman Ty Bergman shot 46-42 — 88 to lead the Rams.
Hobbs' Kenneth Fadke took medalist honors with a 3-under 69, three shots ahead of Ethan Peterson of Clovis.
PHS squads return to action today in a tournament at Lovington. The District 3-1A-3A tournament is also on tap at Lovington next Monday.
