The annual events of Heritage Days, scheduled for June 15-16 and the Peanut Valley Festival, Oct. 20-21, will experience significant changes this year, according to Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Karl Terry.
Both events will highlight New Mexico's centennial with the Heritage Days parade, a birthday cake and a centennial booth.
Terry said the parade route will be changed this year because of road construction on U.S. 70. The parade will start in the area of Juanito's Restaurant at University and Avenue D and travel to Second Street and then to Abilene and on to the Heritage Days grounds at City Park.
The chamber will take over coordination of the annual Peanut Valley Festival, causing the event to move to the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds with indoor vendors in the Roosevelt County Events Arena.
In addition, the High Plains Quilt Festival, which takes place in the same week, will also be held at the fairgrounds in the Jake Lopez Community Center.
