The Portales City Council met Tuesday night and took the following action:
- Approved the city's monthly bills for May in the amount of $1.2 million.
- Approved appointments from the Planning Commission.
- Heard a fireworks overview and update from Portales Fire Department Chief Gary Nuckols.
Nuckols reminded councilors of the statewide ban of open fire and fireworks during this dry-weather season.
- Approved the authorization submission of an FAA grant application.
- Approved the closure of Main Street between Second and Third streets for the MainStreet program's "The Main Event" on Sept. 22.
- Authorized for Mayor Sharon King to execute a DWI Program agreement.
- Approved a new DWI Program Coordinator, Richelle Seat.
- Discussed a possible quorum issue for the July 3 city council meeting.
The councilors decided the meeting will not be moved.
