Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

My turn: Heritage Days made me feel right at home

The pride exhibited from Roosevelt County natives was strong during Heritage Days, strong enough to keep a smile on my face. And despite not being from here, they made me feel like this was my home.

Just like people here tell me they wouldn't trade growing up in the county for anything else, I feel the same about growing up in a big city.

But that's what makes America so cool, we're not made up of cookie-cutter cities and towns. People can live where they want.

When I was talking to Bill and Peggy Prater, some of the coolest pioneers in the area, they made me realize how connected the community was. They have taught generations in Dora and are connected to the community in so many other ways.

I didn't grow up knowing everyone in San Francisco, so I admire that people here look out for each other.

I've noticed that most places face the same societal problems but it's the significance of how communities are affected and deal with them that makes them different.

Being polite to me wasn't a big deal for many people I met Saturday from Roosevelt County, but to me, it meant everything.
