Cargill building new feed plant outside Bovina

Construction is expected to begin in August for a new feed plant next to the Cargill feed lots outside Bovina, according to a press release issued Wednesday by Cargill.

When completed by late summer 2013, the plant will bring create 37 new full-time jobs, Cargill said.

The plant will produce Cargill's Sweet Bran and RAMP specialty feeds.

The release described Sweet bran as a "highly palatable corn milling feed product that drives more consistent and greater energy intake in feedlot and dairy cattle resulting in increased production of meat or milk ..."

RAMP is starter feed for commercial cattle feeding operations.

"We are extremely pleased that Cargill has chosen Bovina for this investment," said Bovina Mayor Frank Gonzalez. "Our community leaders recognize the value of having Cargill as a partner in our community and in our economy. They have one existing facility here now, and have proven themselves to be good neighbors and good corporate citizens. We very much look forward to continuing the relationship."
