Cannon oberserving Armed Forces Voter's Week

The 27th Special Operations Wing Voting Assistance Program ensures all wing personnel, dependents, civilian contractors and voting-aged individuals are aware of how to register to vote in national, state and local elections.

"A lot of people have the mindset that their vote doesn't matter and that isn't the case," said Staff Sgt. Jenna Archuleta, 27 SOW wing administration. "Young people aren't voting as much anymore, and we are doing everything we can to let our personnel know that every vote counts."

At Cannon Air Force Base, each unit is responsible for assisting airmen in establishing voting eligibility. If an Air Commando is able to register, his or her group can assist them in the application process.

"We aren't trying to sway voters or talk politics with people," said Archuleta. "The main reason military members should vote rests on the fact that our votes will directly reflect what we do for the next four years. We have a direct hand in who our next leader will be and we fight daily for our freedom and right to vote."

Armed Forces Voter's Week is June 28 through July 7. The voting office will have a booth at the Base Exchange June 28 and 29 to provide absentee ballots and voter information to interested parties.
