Fourth of July festivities scheduled

There will be several celebrations in the area Wednesday in celebration of Independence Day:

What: Annual Smoke on the Water Fireworks Display

When: 2 p.m. live music, 8:45 p.m. fireworks

Where: Greene Acres Park, Clovis

Cost: Free

Parking: Around park. Portions of 21st, Main and Mitchell streets will be closed starting at 1 p.m.

Food venders: yes

Alcohol allowed: no

Personal fireworks: no

Fundraising update: The Smoke on the Water fireworks fund was at approximately $20,000 Monday afternoon. The goal is $25,000.

Event history: Smoke on the Water was started by Taco Box's Tom Martin in 1995. Since 2007, local broadcasters Rooney and Moon and the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce present the show.

Schedule of events:

2 p.m. — Live music begins on the main stage. (Six local bands)

8 p.m. — Will Banister and the Mulberry Band takes the main stage.

8:45 p.m. — Fireworks start

Portales fireworks display

When: 4 p.m. activities start; 9 p.m. fireworks

Where: West of Greyhound Arena.

Cost: Free

Parking: Arena parking lot

Event schedule

4 p.m. — Activities begin with food vendors and DJ music.

5:15 p.m. — Fusion Funk will perform in costume.

6 p.m. — Everyday Mustache takes stage.

7:15 p.m. —Fusion Funk performs, Andy Mason and Don Thomas will take over the stage until the fireworks begin.

9 p.m. — Fireworks begin.

When 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Where: Sumner Lake

Cost: Regular entrance fee

When: 10 a.m. (CDT) parade, Fireworks 9:30 p.m.

Where: Fireworks are at the new city park

Cost: Free

Senior citizen brisket dinner — 11a.m.-2 p.m., adults $8 children 10 and under $5.

Hot dog eating contest — 11 a.m., courthouse

Kids games, booths and entertainment — 7 p.m., city park

Weather forecast for Wednesday: Partly sunny with the highs in the lower 90s during the day, turning partly cloudy in the evening with overnight lows in the mid-60s, according to Amanda Martin, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Albuquerque. Chance of precipitation is 10 percent.
