Pool should reopen Wednesday

The Portales city swimming pool should reopen Wednesday pending the approval from the state health department, according to Public Works Director John DeSha.

The pool was odered closed Friday by the state health department after it was confirmed a child with an infectious disease swam there about a week ago.

State health officials will inspect the disinfectant levels in the water today, making sure the city followed proper procedure.

According to DeSha, there have been no other reports of other swimmers contracting cryptosporidiosis, the parasitic disease found in the child.
