Cast members are set for "Food, Glorious Food," a 7 p.m. Monday performance at the Clovis Community College Town Hall. Admission is free for the show, the final project for the school's "Broadway Styles of Singing" class.
The college's "Broadway Styles of Singing" class has scheduled a performance of "Food, Glorious Food" for 7 p.m. Monday at the CCC Town Hall.
Admission is free for the performance, which counts as the final project for the class.
The show includes songs from favorite Broadway shows, with food as the tie that bonds them all.
Instructor Jean Wozencraft-Ornellas said before the class began, a student inquired about performing "Worst Pies in London," a selection from "Sweeney Todd."
Wozencraft-Ornellas approved, and soon after figured she'd been handed a pretty good direction for the class.
"I thought that might make a really neat theme for the overriding themse of the show," Wozencraft-Ornellas said, "because there are a lot of Broadway songs about food."
A total of 21 selections, including songs from "Beauty and the Beast," "Little Mermaid," "Oliver," "Sweeney Todd" and "Gypsy," will be placed on a menu as appetizers, main courses and desserts.
The program also includes a second act with tales told by a the fire on a beach.
In all, the show features 13 performers with rudimentary costumes that do just enough to suggest the performance at hand.
The members of the class have spent the last eight weeks working on the program, while balancing jobs, work or vacations.
