Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Scrolling though Facebook is like slogging through a third-world battleground.
Rabid dogmatics attack their "enemies" with uninhibited slander and stereotypes.
Faked images abound of politicians not placing their hand-over-heart during the National Anthem, wearing flag pins upside down, practicing "unpatriotic" religions or using drugs in "private"...
Yet, after I research the hoaxes and post the truth, the ambushers defend themselves with counter-attacks like, "Well, that one may have been fake, but..."
Do haters really think that politicians have not learned the basic protocols of patriotism, which religions are election-friendly, or get photographed engaging in politically-imprudent private behavior?
When I see posts vilifying others as lazy, uncaring, evil, greedy, unpatriotic, blah-blah-blah, I become fatigued knowing that — with few exceptions — it is slothful thinking.
It is especially hard not to vituperate believers who carpet-bomb everyone not toeing their lines — opposing politicians and party members, gays, scientists, foreigners, minorities, women wanting dominion over their bodies, those revering different books...
Although their creators command them to love everyone, their empathy crouches while firing cheap shots from foxholes dug by their vitriolic behavior.
Trying to engage them in rational, peaceable talks — based on respect, facts and critical thinking worthy of our nation — is a fool's battle.
It takes all my former military discipline to keep from lobbing YouTube grenades at their pharisaic walls until they burst into the red-faced glare of gallantly (albeit unknowingly) streaming their new anthem: "Losing My Religion."
