• Difference: The Roadrunners dominated from the start, opening a 49-0 halftime lead and scoring on their first possession of the second half to end the game on the 50-point lead rule.

Floyd/Elida 28, Springer/Maxwell 20

• Records: Springer/Maxwell 0-1, Floyd/Elida 1-0

• Difference: The Broncos' Jonathan Diaz recorded a pass interception in the end zone with 1:25 left to preserve the win. Floyd/Elida opened a 20-6 halftime lead with scoring drives on its first three possessions after the Red Devils returned the opening kickoff for a score.

• Difference-makers: Wyatt Chandler ran for 185 yards and two touchdowns for the Broncos, while W.T. Whitecotton completed 7-of-11 passes for 73 yards and run for another score.

• Of note: Colby Rogers led the Floyd/Elida defense with eight trackles, while Terral Watson, Tucker Morgan and Joe Bannister were in on seven apiece.

• Difference: Texico's defense kept the Demons off the board even though it didn't force any turnovers. Meantime, the Wolverines survived four turnovers of their own, piling up 349 yards rushing and 419 total yards.

• Difference-makers: Senior Shay Harrison scored twice for Texico, including a 56-yard run in the first quarter. He finished with 218 yards on 20 carries. Mitchell Pinnell ran for 63 yards on eight carries, while J.J. Tuls added 59 yards and a TD on nine totes.

• Quotable: "The defense played really well, but we have to get better. It's kind of comforting to play the way we did and still come out with a win. We can play better." — Wolverines coach Ryan Autrey.

Santa Rosa 47, Fort Sumner 12

• Difference: The Lions erupted for five touchdowns in the first half — four by Zeke Sena — to take control.

• Difference-makers: Sena finished with 165 yards rushing on 14 carries, while Marcus Lopez added 124 yards on 25 attempts. The Lions' defense limited the Foxes to 38 yards rushing. Fort Sumner's Garrett Hisel threw a pair of touchdown passes, including a 67-yarder to Shilo Boyle in the second quarter.

Dimmitt 25, Farwell 19

• Records: Dimmitt 1-0, Farwell 0-1

• Difference: Bobcats quarterback Ismael Ontiveros scored on a 4-yard run with 12 seconds left to break a 19-19 tie. Ontiveros went 14-of-23 through the air for 153 yards and two touchdowns, with one interception, and rushed for 69 yards on 14 attempts. For the Steers, Kolten Morris carried 13 times for 114 yards, while QB Collin Christian ran for two TDs and threw a 15-yard scoring pass to Curtis Langford.

• Differnce-makers: "It's just growing pains. We have a lot of young kids, and we're asking them to step up for us." — first-year Farwell coach Taylor Read.

Shallowater 56, Muleshoe 40

• Records: Muleshoe 0-1, Shallowater 1-0

• Difference-makers: Jarek Black rushed for 311 yards and seven touchdowns on 18 carries for the Mustangs. His scoring runs covered 21, 37, 50, 69, 3, 20 and 52 yards. For the Mules, Caleb Wood threw for 315 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a pair of scores, Junior Baca carried 21 times for 132 yards and Austin Ross caught five passes for 125 yards.
