Concert to feature ENMU jazz band

Eastern New Mexico University's Department of Music is hosting a jazz concert at 7 p.m. today in the Music Building's Buchanan Hall.

The concert, directed by the jazz program's Ann Bradfield, will feature ENMU's Jazz Band and Jazz Combo.

The jazz band's program will feature the music of Count Basie.

Trumpet player and ENMU junior Jacob Caffrey of Clovis is excited to perform in tonight's show. Caffrey is a double music major, studying music education and music performance.

The PNT asked Caffrey three questions:

Jacob Caffrey

What musicians inspire you as a trumpet player?

Miles Davis is always great at improvisation. I hope to be as well known as he was. He's by far my favorite and I have his poster in my room. Another great performer is Maynard Ferguson.

If you could pick any musical venue in the world to perform at, where would that be?

Carnegie Hall. It's the ultimate dream for a musician such as myself. I'd love to play in the opera pit or even be able to play my own solo. I also wouldn't mind performing with the New York Philharmonic.

What makes a good performance and what do you hope to deliver in Friday's show?

When the performer really conveys the message to the audience what the piece means. I want to go out and have fun and make the audience have fun.
