Police says Verizon store robbed Wednesday by masked man

A masked man took several hundred dollars Wednesday evening from the Verizon Wireless store on West Second Street, according to the Portales Police Department.

According to police:

  • At about 5:45 p.m., an employee of Verizon reported the robbery. The employee said he was locking up the store when a large subject wearing a black fabric mask with a skull on it approached him.
  • The employee was concerned that the subject was armed because he had his hand in his gray sweatshirt as if he was carrying a gun. The subject was also wearing a blue undershirt.
  • The employee said the suspect demanded money.
  • the employee indicated he surrendered several hundred dollars.
