Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Christmas is supposed to be a joyous time of year, but often times it's hard to celebrate when your family and friends aren't physically with you.
Many airmen stationed at Cannon Air Force Base, including 20-year-old John Rillera of Philadelphia, won't get to see their families this Christmas, but Rillera takes his duty to serve his country seriously.
Rillera, who works in the 16th Aircraft Maintenance Unit at Cannon, answered questions, painting a picture of the Christmas he's dreaming of.

When was the last time you were home for Christmas?
Three years ago, before enlisting.
What is your favorite Christmas tradition you do with family or loved ones?
We gather together and eat lots of food. Holiday ham is one of my favorites.
What are your plans for this Christmas?
Relax with some friends here around town, probably play some Call of Duty.
What's your favorite Christmas movie and why?
A Christmas Story, because Ralph is classic. I love the BB gun story.
What's your favorite dish at Christmas and why?
Holiday cookies, they just put me in the Christmas mood.
What's your favorite Christmas song and why?
Deck the Halls; it's just really upbeat and feels like Christmas.
Who has acted as your support system while you've been here in New Mexico?
My shop, they help me with everything. We are like a family. HOOAH!
What is the one gift you want this Christmas?
I just want another safe year... I don't really ask for gifts.
Many would say you're giving a gift to America by serving this country. Why did you join the Air Force?
I joined to make my family proud. I wanted a challenge, and in my eyes, there are few things as challenging or selfless as serving our great country. I am proud to serve countless Americans and aid in the 27th Special Operations Wing's mission.
What helps you get through staying here for the holidays?
Just my friends and my shop. We are all really close and the 16 AMU hydraulics troops are my family here.
